It’s landslide by American standards
Hilary got two million more votes than Trump and still lost the election

actually i think Trump  would have received more votes if people actually thought he was going to win, i know several people  who would have voted for him but didnt, because they  thought he wasnt going to win and refused to vote for Hillary,

so much for polls   :o

When I was travelling through Colombia a couple of years ago with some of my kids, it was the usual Colombian poverty tour. Square miles of slums in every Colombian city and every road lined with people with nothing to do living in shacks without water or electricity. After a couple of weeks, we all had enough and vowed not to return for at least five or ten years.

The place never changes and this election shows that it will probably never change. I think Colombians like my wife and her children are so used to the poverty they don't even see it. For me the place is incredibly depressing and no amount of beautiful women can change that.

Yeah but there are still hundreds of thousands of Venezuelanos coming here as a result of Petro's heros  Chávez and Maduro.

I cant believe any Colombian would be stupid enough to vote for  Petro, a guy, who if you listen to his words closely, is proposing expropriation of private property, especially when these people can see clearly what happened to their formerly extremely wealthy neigbour.

Duque and his followers kept saying that Petro's heroes were Chavez and Maduro but in fact that was a lie. His actual model was former Uruguayan president Jose Mujica. Uruguay is a little paradise compared to Venezuela.

Only 44% of eligible voters turned out to vote so Duque got a whopping 23% of the eligible voters.

We already discussed this.

Colombia aint Uruguay and aint Swedem.or Norway either.
Apples to oranges.

Petro met with Chávez and Castro.years ago.It is documented on vídeos. He is trying to cover it up now, just like he is mincing his words on his ideas about private land expropriation and collectivization.

I'm not in Colombia and haven't been back for a bit but I absolutely agree with you. I've seen and heard all this before in Latin America and the story usually ends the same way. This socialism/semi-communism bull$hit simply doesn't work. Instead of promoting free enterprise and capitalism that assist big business and creates jobs, they counteract market growth with policies that pretty much amount to handouts to legions of people who don't know better. And to be honest, a lot of them are perfectly happy living in shacks if you can guarantee them electricity, clean water and something to eat once in a while. I've been to dozens of places like this in Colombia. These people are perfectly happy with the bare necessities. It will take a change in the culture's attitude....not just a politician or even a political party to pull Colombia out of poverty. If you talk to most poor Colombians about politics, the way they understand it is, "Well these rich guys got everything, and I don't have [snip]e, but that guy who wants to be president is going to take their stuff and share it all with us, so I'll vote for him." In most cases, all the people end up with is the same thing, and a president (or dictator....whatever!) that's somehow become a multimillionaire if not a billionaire during his time in office.

For me, the voice of Petro has always been the echo of Chavez.

It doesn´t matter what kind of government model a latin american country has when there is rampent corruption at all levels in that country which is unfortunately the case with Colombia.

Looks to me that generally speaking the trend worldwide is towards more conservative political leaders.

And they tend to be wealthier and to support their fellows.
