Are most Yankees coming back to USA? What about Yanks with family there? Cali--can your wife and child even qualify to catch a US sponsored flight?

Sounds like it could get dicey and even worse in Mexico.

Meanwhile we're already leery about August and September available international flights. Crazy times.

Going on 3 weeks since the last Yanks got out of Russia, some folks predicting things won't normalize until 2021,maybe not even then. Frickin virus may well cool off, come back stronger this fall.....

Hundreds of Americans are stranded in Russia after the last flight scheduled to leave the country was canceled as they sat on the plane Friday.

Aeroflot flight 102, which was scheduled to fly from Moscow to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, was preparing to depart when the pilot announced that the trip had been called off.

“A couple of people just started shouting,” said Joe Democritos, an English teacher trying to get back to New Jersey. “They were saying ‘I refuse to leave the plane. I will not leave the plane,’ in Russian, then they got the police to escort people off the plane.”

The U.S. Embassy in Moscow issued several alerts this week encouraging citizens to book the Aeroflot flight, noting that it “may be the last flight available this month” due to strict travel restrictions from the Russian government.

Plenty of tourists got trapped here when the airports shut down. But other than that I don't know of anyone living here that is leaving. We will never get rid of Mudd that is for sure. jajaja

Just from a health stand point it doesn't make sense. to leave Colombia There are about 4000 total reported cases of corona virus in the entire country of Colombia vs about 820,000 cases in the USA. But to put it in perspective....the USA has about 331 million people and Colombia has about 51 million so if Colombia had the pop. of the US there would be about 24 thousand cases of corona virus instead of 4 thousand.

I have a friend in Cabo San Lucas Mexico.  He plans to drive all the way back to Canada in a few days. If not fly.  There are still flights from Cabo to LAX and beyond.  Problem with driving is all the hotels are officialy closed and its a 20 hour drive to the Mexican / US border.  He phoned a couple hotels, one 4 hours away and the other 16 hours away that will take him . Trying to find one 8 hours driving time away.  He is in no rush to get out of Mexico. He just left some eye drops thsat are essential for him in Calgary and he is running out of eye drops in Mexico.  Plus I guess it will be a bit cooler in Calgary in summer than Cabo San Lucas.

Most people with Visas are not going back or are interested- for now. I dont know anybody who is a permanent resident in Colombia who has decided to to leave. I have known people stuck in the US who have gotten on the lst flight back here to Colombia.

Right now I am staying put. Why go from the frying pan ino the fire? Where I amit is tranquilo- really quite, and the infection rate is really low- aound 20 people in a departmento of 2 million. Probably 5% the rate per capita as Canada and 2% the average infection rate per population in the US.

Weather is OK, food is great, I have part time female company when I want it, I can go out running 3 or 4 times a week (clandestine now, but next week it will be legal). I am in Colombia, been here for 8 years,  and it is my home for now.

Freedoms are coming back slowly. Not quick enough for me, I would like to be able to eat in a restaurant, have a drink in a bar, travel to a pueblo or other city in Colombia, go to the beach, go hiking and see waterfalls and paramos and pueblos and fincas, go rock climbing, travel internationally, go to a regular well equipped gym , go to cinemas and concerts- all things I loved to do before. These things will come back ..but very  slowly.

I guess if things get better in Canada and elsewhere in the next few months and get a lot worse here, and there is a lot of freedoms there that are missing here, I would be looking to escape for a few months- if possible-but this type of decision is at least 2 or 3 months down the road.

Right now it is near impossible for me to leave Colombia anyway. They have stopped international emergency flights into Canada from foreign countries, and even then , the last ones were out of Bogota, which is 12 hours away by car- and all inter city transport of any type is pprohibited.

I had 6 weeks vacation planned in Canada , statring early July, but I am pretty sure that is toast. Flights will mos likely be cancelled, and at any rate, all the events and activities I had planned there have been or will be cancelled.
