Hello from Houston, Texas
« on: June 22, 2011, 01:48:17 PM »
Wanted to say Hi everyone. I've read many of the forums here and think they are very helpful. I'm a w/m, 42 and divorced now for 5 years. I'm lucky to have a good job, home and car. I'm looking in the Philippines for a mate.

Any suggestions or advice is welcome. Thanks

Hi Red and welcome! We're happy to have you. I'm originally from Houston and still get there on business frequently - last there in March this year.

Welcome!  First bit of advice: get the book "Culture Shock! Philippines" and get reading.  The Culture Shock series of books is a good primer for anyone starting this quest.  Learn a little bit about the country of your future wife because it will become a major and permanent part of your life forever.

From those of us who've been down this route, there are rules to the game you should know.  They are in the archives, but it can be difficult to go through years of posts.  We can summarize here if you wish.
...a wife should be always a reasonable and agreeable companion, because she cannot always be young.

Thanks for all the great comments. I have looked at a lot of the past forums trying to learn from others. I've tried many sites looking for a future mate and it's been very difficult to say the least. Thanks again for all the advise.

Hi redstrip,

Welcome to P-L! Set back, relax, take your time, and enjoy yourself! Do you know any Filipinos or Americans married to Filipinas (thousands in Houston)? Most know a nice single Filipina that may have great potential to become the next Mrs. Redstrip.

Good luck,

Dave

Hi again everyone,

I've been busy looking but no luck yet. I would like to get in touch with Bear in Houston. I've read a lot of his past post. If Pig or anyone else would share his email and maybe ask Bear if it's OK for me to contact him. I've tried on my own now and I'm ready for some advise. Thanks again for everyones help.

Red,

I'd like to welcome you to the forum.  I am also new to the forum, hehe, sorta...well not really, long story.

Anyways, I saw your newbie post and wanted to give you a proper welcome......Zulu style!

(I am basically rambling so.....)

The Philippines is all you could ever want and more....and less.  I know that's a seemingly confusing collection of nonsense, but you will see what I mean first hand when you visit.

Some advice-

First you have to love and appreciate the country and the wonderful people. All of us who have spent time there will pretty much agree its beautiful, breathtaking, and saddening all at the same time.

There is no place on earth with more beautiful women per square mile, no joke.  Its really amazing and overwhelming...talk about some major eye candy.   Bud...listen......I don't mean cute, or nice looking, I'm talking major 10's, its hard not to stare sometimes!

But, pinays don't act like a bunch of stuck up b*tch tri delta sorority sisters even though they could!  They smile, they are engaging, they are friendly and you can talk to the absolute hottest one and dude, check this....she may be your future wife one day!  Its so refreshing and so different that sometimes its somewhat too perfect!  Then the black soot of the jeepneys and trikes bring you back to reality!  :-)

The Philippines is a poor/rich country.  You can kinda decide for yourself how you experience it, you can stick to the big cities like Manila, Cebu or Davao, or spend time in the province.

Whatever route you choose, I think once you have the full experience of a visit, you will love your sweetie more.  You will see where she is from, meet her parents , friends, siblings and co-workers.  You will get to eat her food, drink her mango juice and taste a great San Mig lite beer!    You will better understand her, its a very good thing!

One thing you gotta be clear about when you seek to marry a pinay.  You will be marrying part of the Philippines and her family, and you must learn to love them just as much as you love her (just don't give money away like a Kano Santa!)  Don't try to change her, make her more American, more "civilized", more acceptable to your friends, family, etc!

Appreciate and adore your Island princess.  Treat her like a prized possession because if you marry a good, honest, hard working pinay, your life will be changed forever and for the better!  You will be a very happy man!   ;)

And on the flipside....the Philippines is not Disneyland for adults (except Angeles City  :-X but thats not for this forum) the women may be stunning but they are real people with real problems, concerns and issues like all women.  Once you get over her beauty you gotta deal with her...the person inside that beautiful body.

Relationships are tough, how you develop yours is really up to you and your mate.  But if you or she bring issues and major baggage to the table finding a pinay bride will not solve your problems. My advice (others may disagree with me) don't seek out fix-it projects, you get my drift?  You are not there to "save" any one from poverty, a bad marriage, abuse, slavery, etc....whew...the list goes on!!

Keep focused....You are looking for a Wife, not a Dependent!!!  You feel me!?

Take your time, make good reasonable decisions, take your time, look for red flags and heed our warnings because they will prevent you from falling in the crevices and cracks ahead and avoid the ever improving scammers.

We have a lot of collective experience here and we don't want you fail.

Remember that! (notice underlined and red)

And please God Almightly after a major red flag don't utter the phrase "but....I know she is different!"

Zulu
Sin lies only in hurting other people unnecessarily. All other -"sins" are invented nonsense. (Hurting yourself is not sinful-just stupid.) RAH
