Yeah the dollar is holding up pretty good against the Mexican Peso for some reason.

I would further suspect that the Zika virus is scaring some tourists away.

All joking aside about the danger of the virus I can see that hurting tourism in some parts of Latin America. My point is more towards the whole South Padre Island vs. Playa Bagdad thing. And the overall potential for development of the left coast of Mexico for tourism.

That's how these candidates could attract my vote. Work out a good deal with Mexico where the violence gets cleaned up and they look for revenues from tourism. I bet they'd even be willing to pay for that "wall" ;)

But I'm being serious in the sense that if the violence went away and the investment for tourism was there the country would greatly benefit. Especially if it was all nice and cost what a Mazatlan trip costs.
Retiring in Tela, Honduras is 14,600 days (haha)

Dont expect peso to collapse completely against $US soon. I dont expect oil prices to crash too quickly.
Peso to Canadian$ still pretty good, was 2400 max, is now 2340. Cad$ is 77 cents US

I meant I dont expect oil prices to recover too quickly..

Price of gasoline is rising and so is the cop against the usd.  We're back down to about 3000 to 1.

DAMNIT!!!! Bad news....I'm heading back soon. Was looking forward to a cheap trip. Still doesn't compare to the 1850/1 rate when I first started going.

I REMEMBER! Didn't make much of a difference to me then though. By that time the company was covering the bill for all my trips to Colombia.

yup I remember it being low..if I recall correctly BuenCamino mentioned there is a larger VAT now, and the Colombian prices have inflated, so we may only need to get down to about 2000 to be equivalent to the 1700 of days past.

Well an increase was proposed but President Santos has stated the IBA would not be raised in 2016.

Heres the reason for latest run up of the Peso

Hey Expat,   How do you feel the latest disruption in Iraq is strengthening the peso or weakening the dollar?   I notice that oil has crept up in price, and the fed has been very dovish, and both of those factors seemed to have been at play regarding the extremely weak peso/strong dollar in the past.

After the latest jobs report in the USA, the dollar has crumbled against the peso...it had re-risen to over 3100-1 prior...now in just the past few days it has sunk again to well beneath 3000-1...
I lucked out in May and while in Colombia caught it during a relatively good span of time.

It appears that the prospect of the fed NOT raising interest rates has sunk the dollar this time around.

I'd say it's fantastic for all of us. Imagine a one third jump in your income if you earn in dollars and spend in pesos.  Nice.

Buencamino is a richer man today!  I think the dollar jumped back up about 150-200 pesos just today...the biggest daily rise I've seen.

It appears that when the US stock market goes down, and dollars lost are a little more scarce then then their value rises.

Well for whatever reason, the Trump presidency has driving the Colombian Peso quite a bit lower...today it is down over 100.    Still not at the highwater it hit earlier this year but at 3116 at the moment.

In addition the Mexican peso, which was already very low is hitting new historic lows every day.  It is now over 20-1.  I hit mexico fairly often so expect a slight benefit from the strong dollar.

If the Mexican peso keeps falling, how are they ever going to pay for the wall?
