Title: Should relevant spam be deleted?
Post by: Patrick on March 14, 2006, 09:05:54 AM
My first instinct is to delete spam posts and ban the poster of the spam since they're using the traffic at a non-commercial site to gain more profit from their own commercial site.  But some of the spam is relavant and people may want to see it.  I'll continue to delete and ban users who post off-topic spam, but I'd like to know what people think of on-topic spam.

Patrick,

I would either make them pay for advertising or delete the spam. I might not ban them the first time but give a warning.

I think the way you did it on the old P-L worked well, where you allowed some spam if it was included in a relevant discussion.

But these guys who just drop a spam bomb on their first post aren't contributing anything useful IMHO. They are just using the "forum" for free advertising.

Delete one-shot bunji spammers.  If they don't come back to contribute further info or answer questions, they aren't contributing to the value of the board and don't deserve space.
