BOOKED FLIGHT FOR: 17-29 May

BOOKED FLIGHT FOR: 17-29 May and guess where?

Colombia?  NO
Peru?  NO
Dominican Republic?  NO
Ecuador?  NO
Panama?  NO
Brazil?  NO

It is ARGENTINA - BUENOS AIRES!!!   I couldn't resist when I saw the price dropped massively to only £280 returns  (Normally no less than £550!)

Argentina is probably one of the last places in South America to be looking for ladies.  I'll be there for the sightseeing and experience, and you never know ...........

Anyone been there ?

I have...but I'm sure my experience will be vastly different from your own. I wouldn't count out dating there. I met quite a few good looking, single ladies in BA. Pretty good night life from what I've heard. I was personally convinced I wouldn't be let into any night club after a few days there so I never left the hotel at night time. Good luck...I can't wait for this trip report.

Wow, they didn't let you into any night club? Why, because you are black? I have heard that Argentina is racist, but I didn't know it was that bad...

I have never been to Argentina but it is supposed to be a very "European" country, more like Spain or Italy than other countries in South America. People or also much "whiter" on average there.

The Argentinos do make some pretty good cumbia  ;D

I have heard that Argentina is racist,

I wouldn't be surprised since 97% white people live there and the remaining 3% is of Latin complexion (according to WiKi)

I have no experience knowing if the country is racist, but I remembered few years ago in LatinAmericanCupid chat room (when they had chat room then), an Argentine woman called them the 'N' word !

 Go to Mendoza.

In my future trip, yes!   I'll be there for one-to-one photography course so I won't have the time for travelling to further cities other than a ferry trip to Uruguay (Colonial del Sacremento)

Well from what I have read and heard most Argentines have a lot of Spanish and/or Italian blood, but many also have at least a little "indian" in them (though they probably will not want to admit or accept it).

According to this study the average Argentine has 30% amerindian blood and even a little African:
http://argentinainvestiga.edu.ar/noticia.php?titulo=un_30_por_ciento_de_componente_mestizo_en_la_poblacion_argentina&id=1531#.VPHYokmh0St

Quote

Yes it is very European country, especially Italian-Argentine

For example, Lionel Messi is one of them.  Also: Angel DiMaria, Gabriela Sabatini, Hernan Crespo, Martin Demichelis,  etc

We did not make it to Argentina when we went to Uruguay. Two of my kids have made trips to Buenos Aires and from what they told me it is a dangerous city with a lot of street crime. They both thought that it was worse than being in Bogota or Medellin. Other than that, they enjoyed it immensely and were very impressed with the architecture.

They both went to Uruguay as well and found (like us) Uruguay to be delightful - very laid back and much less dangerous than Argentina. I want to go back to Uruguay and if it were not so far I could easily see retiring there.

US Govt:

>>street crime in the larger cities, especially greater Buenos Aires, Rosario and Mendoza, is a constant problem for residents and visitors alike. As in any big city, visitors to Buenos Aires and popular tourist destinations should be alert to muggers, pickpockets, scam artists, and purse-snatchers on the street, in hotel lobbies, at bus and train stations, and in cruise ship ports. Be careful in San Telmo, an older traditional neighborhood specializing in antique stores, Recoleta, and La Boca (home to the famous “Caminito” street and “Boca Juniors” soccer stadium) in Buenos Aires, where violent robberies have been occurring with increasing frequency. While crime can occur at all times of day, tourists who go to La Boca should limit their visits to the designated tourist street during daylight hours only. Visitors should be aware that “villas” or shanty towns are present throughout Buenos Aires and other major cities, even in tourist zones, and should avoid entering these areas<<

I've ridden just a little, last time was maybe 20 years ago, but I never played polo nor had my own horse or regular access to one. My doctor used to play polo, you know that each rider has five or six horses and switches them out during the match, don't you? That's why they call it the sport of kings, you have to be rich to play it.

Hey, a trans-cultural question, since you're in UK. Did you get Robert's water joke? I'm sure everybody in the US did, but don't know if people in the UK would.

I'm mystified as to why you say that.  Is it because you think they're not desperate enough?  I already know that's why expat doesn't want to look for women there.

Even if you did play, I'm sure I'd be light brigades better than you, Michaelb. After all, I started as a toddler, riding Jack Russells, playing on a full grass croquet court, with a mallet named Thor. Unstoppable.

I didn't need 5 or 6 horses, either. When I was in middle school, my parents bought me a horse. His name was Secretariat. As for my 'jokes',not that I care, but I don't think anybody gets them! (even w/ emoticons!)

Good question. Gato, I said this...

I wouldn't count out dating there.

BECAUSE I'M BLACK!! That's the only reason. I was talking about myself. Racism in Argentina isn't subtle. It's not as bad as backwoods Mississippi where I'd be getting threatened but I had some bad experiences. First time I flew to BA it was directly from Houston. When we all got seated on the plan an Argentine Woman asked to be moved when she discovered she was sitting by me. I guess the stupid kunt didn't realize I knew Spanish (or she really didn't care). I really wanted to expericence the best of Argentine Beef, but I went to the most critically acclaimed steak houses I had to leave because the waitors never came over and served me (not even a drink). I'm surprised the hostesses even sat me down. It was difficult for me to get taxis. Although they aren't as common as they are in cities like Bogota or Rio, dozens would pass me by that were obviously empty...especially in the evenings. It's easier for me to get a taxi in Manhattan.

Like I said though...I saw quite a few really pretty girls there. You've dated Italians and Eastern Europeans before so I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're not very picky when it comes to skin color or you outright prefer European looking women. I wouldn't count out meeting some local talent. WHY THE HELL NOT?!!! Unless you're one of those extremely liberal white guys that hate racism so much you'd never consider dating a woman that thought less of people with darker skin...which I totally respect.

Gavan, after my bad experiences at the hotel, a few restautants, a clothing store, etc. I wasn't going to waste my time getting dressed up and going to some club I was almost sure would come up with some lame excuse not to let me in....if they didn't outright tell me "NO!" Argentines make no secret of the fact that they aren't used to associating with people of color.

I hope Brazilian Girl chimes in. She went to BA with a black female friend and saw how bad it can be.

OH sh*t, my bad!!  Jaja!!

Well, so much for my self imposed 1 post per day limit.  TOMORROW I will try again, from now on no more than 1 post a day from Awesome.  It's friday night and I'm just staying home since I quit drinking, I don't really know what to do.  Tomorrow I'm going to a friend of mine's sales meeting.  She's got into this pyramid scheme deal selling "weight loss coffee and tea" and she invited a bunch of friends to try to sign them up too.  My friend is really hot and most of her friends are too so me and a couple buddies are going just for the chicks.  Who knows maybe I'll meet the love of my life jaja.  But if not I'm thinking about signing up with the deal just to have a reason to approach and meet women, hey I need all the help I can get.

Really sad. I can understand people who are not attracted to the opposite sex because of physical preferences, but blatant racism..man..that's bad.

And if the Argies  are so uppity, why is their economy so bad and getting worse and some day Colombia will pass them? Seems like a bunch of mismanaged socialist losers that like to blame The US and foreign nationals for all their  problems caused by their own home grown incompetence.

Think its about time for another Falklands war  , and this time the UK should go  go all the way to Buenas Aires to put these uppity people in their proper place. And maybe  an all Black West Indian Platoon can lead the victory March dowm Avenida 9 de Julio.

I guess I am one of those "extremely liberal" guys then because, no, I would not date (and certainly not marry) a racist woman no matter how hot she is.

I had heard it was pretty bad from Peruvians who lived in Argentina. They are mestizos, not black but they also experiened racism there.
