Any info on Chile?
« on: October 15, 2009, 05:58:51 PM »
I am studying the Southern Cone.  So far I like what I see.

Had two conversations today from expats with much experience and strongly encourage me to add Chile to my next trip.  Anyone here have any comparative intelligence?

Thanks

I wish we had more info (and trip reports) on both Chile (South America) and Nicaragua (Central America). I can't tell you anything you wouldn't find on wikitravel or the travel forums. If I would have struck out in Honduras I'd like to think I'd have either ended up in Managua or Santiago. Hopefully you'll eventually be able to provide us with some first hand info on Chile.

Yea, I have been surprised by the lack of information much less trip reports and networking that is possible with the Southernmost countries of South America.

From what I gather, the women are more European looking, and less motivated to move to the USA.  Thus, there is not "marriage agency" stuff.  Perhaps the long flight times also make these destinations rare.

BUT, I am hearing ( and imagining hopefully ) that places like Chile and Uruguay have a mix of European manner with everything I already like about the Latin culture.  I put a great amount of time learning the culture and language,so I certainly want to maximize that investment.

I am planning a trip first quarter of next year.

Big difference to me between Chile and Argentina... at least to me. Less motivated to move to the USA... for the wrong reasons. Sounds good to me.

I used to spend alot of time in Chile for work.  I didn't particularly care for the women.  They can be stuck up, love living in Chile, and really don't care to move to the USA...It is a great place to live.  The Chilean women are very different than the "hot" climate girls of Colombia and Venezuela..IMO...the Chileans aren't as warm and passionate as Colombia and VZ ladies, either...just my opinion.

No one goes there. It is rumored to be very boring. Every report I've read has been bad. It is said to be somewhat like another Anglo country in S.A. in terms of how women behave and the friendliness of the people there.

There were even Youtube videos stating that Chile is La caga Sur America.

I found an old picture. Some curse words for the sensitive, in Spanish. Mods if this is against the rules, please delete.

Henry..Chile is far from boring.  It's an amazing country and great for vacation.  The cities, food, wine and the people are nice..You have the mountains, a beautiful coastline, Santiago and the wine country within driving distance...It just really isn't a place to go to just get laid.

Might that depend on the guy? How about finding a girlfriend? Is it a goog place for that.

My only point about Chile is that it seems to be less expensive than argentina.

Thanks for the info fellas.

I have done much research, made some contacts... and have decided AGAINST a long visit.  The reasons:
1, very strong class system
2, faster dialect of Spanish
3, slower to mix and accept gringos

There is much to see, and only so much time to see it...

More of a class system than Colombia?

I have not been, but with the benefit of several conversations with expats and adventurers, just as bad ... but, there are more people in the middle class.  So, if you have not made it to that level, you are looked down on very much.
