Just Checking In
« on: August 17, 2023, 11:23:12 PM »

I hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been on in quite a while. Life has been busy.

I am still married to my Colombiana. We had our 16th wedding anniversary this month and are still happily married. I would say that is the result of me choosing well and pure luck.

My wife is an awesome woman and she has an awesome family. I had to have open heart surgery one year ago and my inlaws did more for me than anyone else. One of her brothers flew up from Colombia to help look after me for about a month. He was a big help.

My wife went from speaking no English and not even being able to drive to now speaking English, earning her bachelor's degree in accounting and now has a job as a state examiner. She makes great money and we are quite confortable. Of course she learned to drive.....lol!

Just wanted to drop in and say hi to anyone who still posts here.

This site is dead. Seems bnobody is interested in this topic anymore.

Even on other Colombian sites, whenever the subject of Women or Romance comes up, espescially about meeting womne on-line. it quickly gets shut down, lack of interest,  because eveyone knows the "game" or at least should.

The subject matter is Visas, Taxes, and how much of a pain it is living in Colombia with the new government, all the bureaucracy, inflation, cost of living, and how the other Latin Countries are not much better, with rising violence in Ecuador, political instability, but still better than living in the US, Europe, or espescially better than living in that third world sh1t hole that thinks itis first world, called Canada.

Congrats on the 16 years of marriage to your Colombiana wife, Researcher. Impressive to hear all that she accomplished over that time period.

Glad to hear you got through heart surgery ok. I'll be sure to think of that next time I complain about some "petty" little thing that adds up to nothing.

"Yeah, I just catch myself wondering, and waiting, and worrying
About some silly little thing that don't add up to nothing
And then she looks me in the eye, and says "We're gonna last forever and ever"
And you know I can't begin to doubt it
No, 'cause it just feels so good and so free and so right
I know we ain't never gonna change our minds about it."

I agree. Times have changed as they always do. Things were beginning to change back when I was in to looking for a foreign woman. Things have changed in the US as well as internationally. There doesn't seem to be as much  interest in retiring as an Expat also. I always thought I would end up retired in another country but now that may not happen, which is ok by me. I am just playing it by ear.

Happy Holidays! Was nice to hear some of the old crew checking in. Glad Mambo, Father Time, Researcher, Elex etc are all doing OK. Even wish the best for Ray--sure he was quite the battle axe a while back, but he helped some folks too.  I think most of us have mellowed a bit. I stay in touch a bit w/ Andy Lee, Whitey, Fosgate and a few others, and things are good.

We don't socialize much (too much B.S.) but every 4 or 5 years, we might go to the Filipino American Christmas gala--so pics are from Sunday 12/10/23.

But I think us NOT going to parties has helped keep us tight all these years! We go out on dates a fair bit (and travel), but 99% of the time, its just us.

Happy Holidays! Hoping y'all are doing OK or better.

Pic was late summer Chicago, before our trips to Northern Michigan in September, then travels around  Eastern Europe in October & November.  December has us back home in Savannah getting our USA medical appts done. God willing we're looking spending a a few weeks in Japan early spring. Maybe back to our home in the Philippines later in 2024. My wife still works from home and obviously has some liberal vacation time, but what's equally precious and necessary is the health insurance. At least she's got a great view of nature from the office! I'm thankful to God that we were able to get here on my Public School Teacher retirement!
Anyways--wishing all of you the best for the New Year--health and happiness!

Hey guys, (gals?),
Hope all are doing well. Had our 18th wedding anniversary back in February, been together over twenty years actually. The huge age difference never goes away and getting old sucks blah, blah. That said, I've been really fortunate. She had her head on straight from the git go. Still all about family back home. If she wasn't (and she helps them out and towards being independent) I'd actually worry. But funny how even a huge chunk of time can seemingly fly by. It depends on the event/s and memory of course. Some things we never forget.

My younger (28 y/o) son is engaged to a Nicaraguan gal (is a US citizen) he's been with for five years. Fair game--I guess 'outside interests' might be generational and they're both post college kids/adults, going places together.  Steady/got apts together, two dogs and next....On-line match making/dating is as crazy as ever I gather--being past age 30 and without a steady partner is no picnic for most folks nowadays.
We just got back from 15 days in Japan and it was the most different place we've ever been. Those folks do it their own way and I don't think they look upon any other people nearly as fondly as they do themselves. I think Spain will be a lot warmer in many ways, looking forward to that heretofore unexplored (to us), area.

Let's try to beat back the bot posts!

I was watching an old movie a while back....can't remeber the name....but a guy is hiking with his wife and daughter....the wife slips and falls over a steep ledge...she is hanging on for dear life and the husband edges down to grab her hand and pull her up ....the daughter keeps getting closer to the ledge to see what's going on and the father is yelling at her to stay back....well the daughter slips and is falling toward the father and the ledge of the cliff.

The father lets go of the wife and grabs the daughter and saves her life....the daughter blames her father for the mother's death.

The father has no remorse or second thoughts about what he did.

I personally would have made the same choice without a second thought....but the real question is.... what would Robert have done?
