finally got married
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:28:52 AM »
I've been swamped with work and haven't posted in a long time but I actually tied the knot a couple of months ago. We had a simple ceremony on the beach and at this point I'm just finishing up all the paperwork for immigration. She's got her medical in a couple of days and then she'll just have to sign the documents, send them back to me, I'll file with the government and we'll enter the waiting phase.
I'd just like to thank those on the board that have helped me and others like me over the years, as well as Jamie and his agency for making the introduction. My reviews at the time provided more detail, but i'll again say that he's running a quality operation that truly does put the clients first.
Anyway, I'd just like to wish everyone and their families happy holidays. Feels good to have a future with someone mapped out!

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your bride Cham!

She's got her medical in a couple of days...

If you are talking medical for the visa interview, then that comes MUCH later after filing the petition with USCIS.

She will recieve instructions for the medical exam from the US Embassy in Bogota (or the NVC?), but that won't happen for a while yet...

This a nice to hear a story on the road to marriage and good times chameleon.  I think you are saying the agency in Barranquilla was the matchmaker.

Chameleon:  I know this thread is ancient history.

I hope you and your girl (now wife) walked off into the sunset and all is well. You certainly don't have to post here. But it would be interesting to get an update since you have not posted since getting married.

Doing the math you would be about 33 now and your wife 25.

Ya never know--maybe he'll be back. He's only not visited here since 2012.

What I find funny is we've had a couple guys recently post fairly long intros here, asking for help and they've never come back to see the responses--at least not under the names they used initially anyhow.  ::)

Yeah, I figured it was worth a shot especially given he married the girl.

I can see how a guy who is new with just two posts can easily disappear. You'd think the OP would want to come back to post a success story....maybe not so much if the marriage went south quick.

You're right Hector. It'd help guys to learn more about the first days, months & year/s. Not only are there growing pains, but also some hilarious stories. Just from a laundry and cooking perspective, reality versus perception and lost in translation ha ha's.

For us, those were really golden days, everything was new and interesting, so many shared experiences. Another thing was, I never had to lift a finger around the house! Maybe I should do this every few years! (NOT)  :D

I think part of them not wanting to come back and post is if they're honest and mention some things, like the D word (divorce) being mentioned, even in the haste of a heated argument, it brings out all the pundits here.

Although most guys on PL are from the USA, there's a fair representation of Canadians, Brits and Aussies and if their nations have anything like our immigration--USCIS, the fees to naturalize and get work papers to cover for a new wife from abroad are getting more and more expensive. The newer guys could 'pay it forward'---helping guys considering the search to realize they need to start saving now.

We have a friend who like most of us is of relatively modest means and he kind of got married fast--he actually brought a Filipina here on a tourist visa and married her. Now he's looking at all the govt fees, expenses to bring her son here etc.,  and is selling off his toys--his Apple Mac book, an extra Apple desk top, collectibles etc--so his wife can get papers, work legally and help out a bit.

A lot changes over time and the newer guys have the latest info on all that, info others could use.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Maybe his wife is pregnant, hes working his ass ff, and between spending "prime Time" with his wife and job, he doesnt have time for stupid sights like this..don't always assume the worst...

More likely a guy is likely to come on this site if his relationship went bad, to warn others, and tell a few stories...I think the guys who are really sucssesful who come onto this site later  are extremely rare.

Still despite the supposed statistics, I think guys who skype a women for a few weeks, visit her for two weeks, then marry her and stay sucsessfully married for several years   are extremely rare and lucky, from what i have heard and seen  on the "ground" in Cali and Medellin..I sure know it isnt for me..I have had relationships here that have started off hot, and lasted longer than some of these guys have spent before marrying the women, then gone dead as a doorknob. No, these "Portable R&R" speed marriages arent for risk averse guys like me...

actually, I think the guys whose relationships go bad are more likely to disappear. I've seen guys who seemingly had all the answers completely disappear from the site...guys are more likely to report on how things are going well than going bad...that's why LatinSharpei's thread "Sending Money Creates a Monster" was one of the longest and best in my opinion, because it's so rare for a guy to report on PL how things went wrong...

I totally agree with this.  You gotta respect the honesty (and balls) of the guys who will share their negative experiences with the board.

Some guys are scared of other posters giving them a hard time.  That's seems pretty cowardly to me.  Why the hell would you care what some anonymous internet bozo has to say?  Just keep it real is what I say.
