I would appreciate it if someone(s) can tell me what would be a typical wage for someone in Colombia per month. I am not talking about a highly skilled job just general employment or better yet what is the average salary per month there. I need to know this as I will be employing some people there.
Thanks

The minimum wage was increased to $408.000 pesos monthly (say $177 USD) monthly on January 1 this year plus certain bonus and mandatory payments required by law like EPS (health plan) $128.000, Subsidy(kinda like social security)37.000, bonus $87.000
Transportation subsidy 40.000 say another $300.00Also an ancheta (gift) at Christmas, not required.  We pay about a 100.000 more than the minimum plus help out in other way since she is a single mother with three kids.

An upper level mid-manager would be around $2.00.000 COP a month plus a sliding scale of the above required payments..

Kinda a hard question to answer since you did not include the skills you need.  The minimum wage is what most store clerks/housekeepers/common laborers etc. and other similar workers make.

Here's what a mayordomo (live on site caretaker) would cost you per month in 2006:

Minimum Salary..................................................$408.000
EPS health plan + subsidy...................................$165.000
Prima/Sesentias/Vacaciones/Interest......................$87.000
Electric for his house.......................................+/-$40.000
gas cylinder.........................................................$25.000
Uniforms/gifts(ancheta at Xmas) school supplies*...$33.000
For a total of $755.000
*It's customary for the patron (owner) to pick up at least part of the tab for the mayordomo's childrens' school supplies.

The prima is half a months salary extra paid twice a year in December and June.
The sesantias are workmans compensation and are paid at the end of the employees employment or at the end of a six month contract.
The interest is paid on the sesentias at the end of the year.
The legal work week in Colombia is 48 hours. For a regular (not live on site) employee you would drop the electric, gas and school supplies but add the $40.000 transportation subsidy mentioned above.
