Building a house in Thailand- the final stages
« on: August 29, 2007, 09:34:17 AM »
The long road of building my house in Udon is coming to the end. The house will be more or less finished in two more weeks.

Definitely some Thai twists- we know that the developer is running a little short of money-He has a lot of houses constructed but sales have been a little slow since the coup. So his expenses are all paid out but the profit portion of the project is yet to come.

He has been asking for payment and transfer of the title. However, the house must be finished before we transfer and that will be two weeks after the the inspection. The final coat of resins went onto the upstairs floor and now takes a week to dry. The kitchen is being constructed and power hooked up. The upstairs AC units are now in.

But- he hasnt done the yard yet and that takes 2 weeks. He may discount the yard just to get paid early.

When we ordered our pantry bar, it was 30% down and the balance on completion. When the materials arrived, the contractor wanted all of the money up front. My girlfriend went and yelled at them-out of character for Thais- and they agreed to the original terms.

36 hours later, they had completed a pantry bar that exceeded our expectations.
We were happy to pay the balance to the contractor.

This is Thailand- the land of ever changing terms and agreements.
