I had lunch with a friend in a pueblo north of Cali yesterday. It was pretty good, carne llanero where they cook beef on a cone shaped rack over a wood fire in the style of the Llanos. My friend knew the waitress and told me her story. Four years ago she was "working" in a bar in a vereda higher up in the mountains above the pueblo we were in. It was a bar the FARC guerrilla went to for R & R. One day the army went up there and captured everybody. She was hauled in with the rest and was later tried and sent to jail for two years for being guerrilla. Apparently she wasn't, she was just a hooker trying to earn a platica but instead of fifty thousand pesos she got two years in jail in Tulua. Well she has a nice smile and seems to have gotten her life in order. I'm certainly not interested in her "services" but I'd sure like to hear some of her stories.
