Going to Cali in Nov - Where should I stay ?
« on: October 11, 2008, 10:06:51 PM »
I have been to Cali before back in 2004. I stayed @ the Intercontinental for 80 / night ( back in 2004 ). I looked @ their offical website today. They want $147 / night. Should try to call direct for a cheaper rate ? Any other suggestions ?

Thanks,

Frank ( Houston, TX )

Stay at CaliCharm's Bed and Breakfast. I believe the rate is $55.00 a night and as long as you stay a min. 7 days, Your introductions are free...

On my seven or so trips down, I always liked the Cora -Aparta Suites. It is near
Avenida-Sexta(Not to close) on Avenida 9N,the staff was very helpful and they
go the extra mile for you. Cost about $60 U.S. per night and it is a more home
like setting with bedroom, kitchen and small living room.... :-) ladies feel very at
home in this setting.

A second choice is Calima Real Hotel near Sheraton (Both in the North). Calima
is a very reasonable in price on the small side. A final possiblity is a hotel and an
Agency  called TheColombianSoulmates and this is web address as well, just add
dot com to name. I have a friend who has used them twice this year. He has
begun the Visa process for a lady he met through the Agency. I looked at the
site and it has a number of beautiful ladies. Prices are on web page. Both the
above hotels also have web-sites. Cora also has a location in Bogota. Hope it helps you or someone else. Sheraton is a nice option and close to the bars, clubs
of Avenida Sexta, priced in vicinity of Intercontinental $125- 160 U.S.

Like you...I also stayed at the Intercontinental back in 2002 and 2003. Then it was 75 dollars a night for a suite!!

I always enjoyed it there because of its resort like setting with multiple restaurants, pool and casino. I do understand that they now charge you extra for an "evening guest" which they never did a few years back.

My feeling is that if you already have a woman the intercontinantal is good but if you are just 'dating' women they may be uncomfortable walking past all the people in order to get up to your room for some nookie :D, since everyone is going to be staring at her, she may feel like a ho.  All that being said, I really enjoyed my stay at Cali Charm the rooms are decent and have hot water.  I also like Ricardo's apartments, which you can see on the ACG website.

It's a little dificult to go from staying at the Intercontinental to staying at Cora Suites. There are very nice smaller hotels for about $100 a night.

If you are gong to be staying a couple of weeks or more and especially if you are going to be staying over into Dec. you will probably be a lot better off renting an apartment. Contact; arthurbrode@aol.com

If you plan on staying in Cali for Dec give me a call 480-612-2264

Can't comment on Cali Plaza, but another option comparable to Intercontinental in accommodations and pricing is the Radisson across from Unicentro Shopping Mall in Ciudad Jardin (south).

I like Suites House much better than Cali Plaza.

Still don't know how long you plan on staying otherwise I'd recommend some very nice apartments

Cali Plaza is perfect.  In a great area close to Avenida Sexta...across the street from Viejo Barril club/bar.....within walking distance to some of the best restaurants, while at the same time close to the "fast food" type places if you need to save a couple bucks or just stopping for a quick bite solo.

The owner's name is Claude.  He is an American from Tennessee I think.  Great guy.  He is always there and will point you in the right direction.  He knows a lot of the girls from the agencies since his place is almost completely full of gringos and Europeans.  So some of the chicas have been making the rounds for awhile.

His place is so good that when I stayed there last time....my ATM card did not work, and I had not eaten, and it was super late so I needed to eat at a restaurant on Sexta that did not accept credit cards....so his guy in the front office loaned me COP 100.000 so I could go eat.  Even though I was staying there for a few days...I do not think that would ever happen in another hotel.

Most of his staff speak some English.

I stayed in a one bedroom suite, with full kitchen, flat screen TV, the works, and I think it was $90/night or something like that.

Check out his website...the fotos section.  Just Google Cali Plaza.

And Virtual Tourist has him listed #1 in Cali....and like #2 in Colombia I think....it is that good of service...

I won't comment on Cali Plaza because I am friendly with the owner. Again, if you PM me - I have other top secret papi approved options
